The city of Springfield and Fire officials official broke ground yesterday for the beginning of Chapter two for what has been a long process for the "Thurston Station", since toxic mold was discovered in their previous station. Fire officials hope to have the two story spanking new fire station open in time next year for fire season.

Eugene fighters needed more manpower than they could handle during an afternoon brush/grass fire on the south side of Beltline Highway between Interstate Five and Coburg Road. First due units onscene immediantly called for a full 1st Alarm Structural box to assist crews along the freeway to protect residences along Beltline during the fire.

Additional crew responses came from in addition to Eugene, but also from neighboring Springfield and rural communities such as Goshen and Coburg for station coverages and move ups during the fire. ODOT crews closed the eastbound lanes during the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investgiation at press times.

Meanwhile, Eugene Firefighters also have been placed on stand by to respond to California to assist structure fire crews there. Task forces have yet been called out.

An early morning fire in Dexter on Rogers Lane has claimed the life of one person earlier Friday morning. The fire was reported shortly after 1 A.M. Friday, 9-1-1 received multiple calls of the fire and a person trapped inside before firefighters arrived onscene.

The fire took more than an hour to contain with additional units from Goshen, Pleasant Hill and Springfield responded to the blaze with additional manpower and equipment. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

UPDATE: The Lane County Sheriff's Office has identifed the women killed in this morning fire, she has been identified as Faye Gillette, 65, of Dexter.

A motorcycle club member was recentlty convicted of a crime and was sentenced to do jail time, yesterday, the Lane County Jail released the convict after serving just - ONE DAY in jail do to overcrowding the Lane Co. Sheriff's Office said. LCSO officials say Justin "Mooch" Deloretto was originally sentenced to a year in jail and five years probation and is expected to show up for a work crew assignment, the sheriff's office said.

Due to recent budget cuts and only 93 beds in the county jail, sheriff's officials say they had no appearant choice to release Deloretto due to overcrowding and long term bed space from budget cuts.

A 15 year old Eugene teen who told police she was abducted early Wednesday morning near Sheldon High School in North Eugene, said she fabricated the abduction, police said Thursday.

Eugene School District Officials had all Cal Young area schools under lock down as a precaution that the suspect may have still been in the area at the time of the alleged abduction. Students were told they could not leave campus, walk or ride their bicycles home from school unless a parent was to come and pick them up from from.

Police officials are considering filing charges against the teen.
