COBURG, OR (OFP) - The city of Coburg will once again be without a police chief at the end of the month as Chief John Bosley resigned his position with the city effective September 30th.
Coburg City Council held a closed door city council meeting early Tuesday night over the fate of Chief Bosley's position with the department. Bosley was recently suspended with pay per the city last week over possible performance actions, the city said in local news reports. Bosley became a police officer with the city in 2000 and became chief in 2006.
The City Manager says Bosley's suspension has nothing to do with the recent thiefts of police equiptment and stolen radios from the police department early this summer, however the Oregon State Police is investigating that incident. Boslely came under controversy when the department sold an M-40 semiautomatic weapon at an auction, later it was determined that weapon had belonged to the Department of Defense.
Bosley has been on paid administrative leave since his suspension last week, the city said. |

COBURG, OR (OFP) - When it comes to protect and Serve, the opposite is just that, they become a victim themself's. Last week, thief's did an overnight black bag job at the Coburg Police Department, which is shared with Coburg's City Hall and other city department offices.
Police say someone broke into CPD last week as the burglary was discovered the following morning by a city employee around 6am, last friday, according to published reports in Thursday's Register Guard and local tv news stations, Thursday night. The brassen black bag job made off with 4 Motorola Police radios and equiptment valued at $7,000 per radio, more if you count the accessories, programming and batteries stolen, police say each radio is costly with the above equipment and ups the value to nearly $20,000, investigators said. That wasn't all either - 75 US Gold plated coins that were seized in a case last year and never claimed and their face value was unknown to investigators and officers of CPD at the time they were seized and stolen last week.
The Oregon State Police is investigating the burglary.

GLIDE, OR (OFP)- A 450 acre lightning caused wildfire near Glide in the Umpqua National Forest is 50% contained. Recent cooler weather in the last couple of days has helped firefighters with containment efforts and wet terrain is making for muddy conditions on the fire line as firefighters have hike into the fire scene in steep terrain, some 26 miles east of Glide. Weather forecasters say dry sunny weather is in the weekend forecast and could make containment efforts interesting if winds pick up.
With over 750 firefighters on the fire line working the contain the fire, officials say they hope to have the fire contained Thursday, August 28th.
