EUGENE, OR (OFP) - The Eugene Police Department is taking the latest string of Carjackings involving two armed suspects that involve kidnapping and robbery of women who drive alone. EPD says in each case a women driver would be carjacked and kidnappend and forced to drive to a local ATM and having the suspects withdrawl money from a local ATM.

In each case both suspects have claimed to be armed and bank security cameras have caught the suspect in the act of withdrawing money from their victims bank accounts with security footage on hand, police hope to have the suspects in custody. Detectives are concerned that future incidents involving these suspect could turn to the worst escalating to the possible use of force by the suspects, police said.

GOSHEN, OR (OFP) - A semi truck carrying lettuce bottlenecked the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 late Friday afternoon, south of Eugene, the Oregon State Police said. Meanwhile, two other mva's also distrupted traffic on Highway 126, and Highway 99 and milepost 8 south of Creswell.

JUNCTION CITY, OR (OFP) - A telephone wire theft, possibly the work of wire thief's in the Junction City area has disabled the 911 and telephone service to the 998 prefix in the Junciton City area of Lane County. The outage was reported early Monday morning by Qwest, who say thiefs may be the culprit behind the recent theft of the phone lines. Qwest official say they hope to have the lines back up and in operation by Tuesday morning at the lastest.

Residents living in the Junction City Fire District, Lane Rural Fire District and the High Pass area of hte 998 prefix are asked to go to either the Junction City Fire station at 1755 Juniper Street or the Lane Rural Fire & Rescue Station 53 at 91970 Territorial Highway in Franklin to report their emergencies if they do not have cellphone service and emergencies will be taken via radio from those locations back the Central Lane 911 Communications Center in Eugene, authorities said.

SISTERS, OR (OFP) - The first lightning caused fires started firefighters off to an early fire season late Friday with over 500 plus reported lightning strikes reported across the High Plains Desert area with the largest fire being at 100 acres.

The Geneva 6 fire was reported shortly before 3:30pm, Friday as a string of dry lightning storms passed through eastern Oregon. No homes have been damaged or destroyed.

A 25 year police veteran of the Eugene Police Department will be taken the Intermin Police Chief's job on October 17th, Captain Pete Kerns, started his stint with the police department in 1981 as a reserve police officer and later sworn a full fledged officer of the department in 1983.

Kerns will replace Chief Robert Lenher, who left Eugene to accept a job with the Elk Grove, Ca., Police Department. Kerns will manage a department of 374 officers and $42 Million budget.
