COBURG, OR (OFP) - The city of Coburg will once again be without a police chief at the end of the month as Chief John Bosley resigned his position with the city effective September 30th.

Coburg City Council held a closed door city council meeting early Tuesday night over the fate of Chief Bosley's position with the department. Bosley was recently suspended with pay per the city last week over possible performance actions, the city said in local news reports. Bosley became a police officer with the city in 2000 and became chief in 2006.

The City Manager says Bosley's suspension has nothing to do with the recent thiefts of police equiptment and stolen radios from the police department early this summer, however the Oregon State Police is investigating that incident. Boslely came under controversy when the department sold an M-40 semiautomatic weapon at an auction, later it was determined that weapon had belonged to the Department of Defense.

Bosley has been on paid administrative leave since his suspension last week, the city said.
